In 2005, artists Sarah Craske and Stephen Melton established their personal studios in a 200sqm industrial unit in St Lawrence,
Ramsgate (UK). This included a bronze casting foundry (previously known as Meltdowns) where they cast works not only
for themselves, but for many established artists, designers, architects and other creative practitioners across the UK. As their
practice, expertise and technology developed, so did the variety of work that their studios produced.
In 2007, with the purchase of another Unit on the same site, this facility grew to become an artists’ owned and led space and
community, offering an accessible fine art creation facility. The fine art creation, in turn, subsidised studio spaces for artists and a
global education programme. SPACER is now an established and recognised studio, offering a range of activities and opportunities to a wider range of creative and general communities across the Southeast of the UK and beyond.
