SPACER is relieved to announce that we were awarded the COVID-19 Emergency fund from Arts Council England (ACE).
Like for many across our sector, Covid-19 has had a huge impact on us here. From the cancellation of our public programme, the withdrawal and postponement of grant funding schemes, cancellation and postponement of commissions for fine art creation, to the lack of PPE to suitably protect our crew whilst working with our various materials here on site, it has felt that there has been continuously one challenge, after another.
This amazing ACE support came just at the right time and will enable the following:
_The prevention of SPACER ceasing operation
_The retention of 5 members of existing staff
_The continuation and completion of our organisational move from Meltdowns (trading as SPACER) to SPACER, our new social enterprise
_Time in which to make urgent changes to our business model in these unprecedented times, creating a new, ambitious and dynamic response strategy
_The continued support we give to our immediate arts community through studio rent reduction, with the hope that in turn, this enables them to get back on their feet
_Much needed organisational development that will include time to research and rework our cancelled public engagement offer, design and test new ways to share our facilities to allow for continued social distancing, the identification and application to other grant funding schemes and the stabilisation of our earned income streams.
We look forward to showing you what we achieve during this phase of opportunity soon, and we will be posting more detail here, on our blog.
Hoping you’re all safe and well,
The SPACER team
